Rivets
Rivets are fixing systems which serve to connect two elements quickly, easily and permanently. They are particularly used in the following sectors: automotive, household appliances, furniture, hardware, military industrial, laminated metals, etc. We have a wide variety of rivet models and materials.
Types of rivet according to their shape
When it comes to selecting the type of rivet you want to buy, bear in mind the shape and the type of material you need to fix in place. In Index you will find:
- Protruding head-type rivets: These are perfect for avoiding liquid or vapour leakage.
- Large flange head-type rivets: These are designed to join different materials that require a larger fixing area.
- Stainless steel rivets: These are ideal for applications requiring protection against the elements or corrosion.
- Blind flower rivets: These provide a large rear surface area thanks to the way in which the rivet expands in the shape of flower petals. Recommended for application on plastic materials or those with little resistant to stress.
What are the parts of a rivet?
Rivets include the following parts.
- Head: This is the top part of the rivet with a diameter wider than the body. It makes the objects you want to join fit together perfectly.
- Body: This is a base circular tube that is inserted into the parts you want to join together.
- Pin: This is the long, milled part of the rivet, it is inserted into the riveter and once inserted, remains outside the joint.
How to install a rivet
The first thing to bear in mind when installing a rivet is that you will need a riveter. Rivets can be inserted cold if their diameter is equal to or less than 8mm, and they are inserted hot if their diameter is more than 1mm.
To insert them you will need to drill a hole in each of the objects you wish to join to be able to insert the cylindrical body of this fastening system. Once the part has been inserted, you need to make sure the head is protruding slightly to achieve adequate fixing.
