INDEX Fixing Systems ensures compliance with the revised and expanded version of the regulation on concentration of toxic substances in electrical and electronic equipment

Logroño, February 27, 2013. Adopted by the European Parliament and the European Commission and published in June 2011 in the Official Bulletin of these bodies, the European Directive 2011/65/EU, also known as Directive RoHs 2, regulates and restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). This new directive complements its predecessor, Directive 2002/95/EC or Directive RoHS, and is in force since January 1, 2013 for products regulated in the original normative, giving the ones that are newly included in the revision of the directive a transition period of up to seven years to meet their requirements.

Defining electrical and electronic equipment as "all equipment which is dependent on electric currents or electromagnetic fields to work properly and equipment for the generation, transfer and measurement of such currents and fields and designed for use with a voltage rating not exceeding 1000 V ac and 1500 V dc", the Directive sets out 10 categories of EEE, for which sets maximum tolerated values of concentration of toxic substances:

 • Lead (0.1%)

• Mercury (0.1%)

• Cadmium (0.01%)

• Hexavalentchromium (0.1%)

• Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) (0.1%)

• Polybrominateddiphenylethers (ESDP) (0.1%)

TheRoHs 2 extends the practical scope of the restriction that made its predecessor. Thus, for example, a chair with an electric drive motor on the support would be included in this regulation, whereas previously only the drive motor itself was included.

The full range of products of INDEX Fixing Systems susceptible to be used in electrical and electronic equipment meets the requirements laid down in Directive RoHs 2, as it did with its predecessor’s. To ensure it, when Directive 2002/95/EC was adopted, the company introduced, inter alia, its range of Chrome 3 metric tread screws.
